Most of the negative reviews relate to the problem of setting an alarm on this small device. My own confusion initially caused me to rate it poorly, but once you know how to program the device it's actually quite useful. First, press and hold the alarm button. It will show you the current maximum temperature it will accept. It's about 39 degrees Fahrenheit and probably normal for a refrigerator. If you want to change this temperature, press and hold the button on the back of the device. The temperature will increase and eventually scroll to the bottom to start at the lowest acceptable temperature. Now press the alarm button again and you set the lowest allowable temperature. Pressing and releasing the alarm button toggles between on and off. This is useful because if the fridge or freezer is used frequently, the temperature will rise above the set value. Six years later our fridge started going crazy, so this cheap little gadget could be a lifesaver for the groceries in my fridge.
