This thing is so quiet even I can't hear it and I'm a very light sleeper. It requires a filter, but I agree, I know some people don't. I feel like this filter really helps because I had a similar air purifier that didn't need it and didn't work. It states that they can be washed, but they are not that easy to clean. At the same time, the filter really cleans the air. I am allergic to dust, pollen and pet dander and haven't had many flare-ups since using it. Not to mention, I'm using less and less of my typical allergy medication. I used to have an inhaler at one point, but since I bought this air purifier I no longer need an inhaler. It's on our dresser in our bedroom and you won't even realize it's an air purifier. It actually looks like a fancy lamp. Love that it works so great. In fact, I've just ordered a few more to set up around my house.
