I mainly use them for cold oats. They are "hermetic" in that the dome of the lid actually rises due to air pressure after the lid is closed. Nothing has spilled yet, but on the way to work I zip the containers into a gallon and then into a roomy bag so nothing can cut/snag/break the lid during transit. Hats are not easy to put on, some say. , but I think they have problems because the lid is not tightly closed. You need to hold it in your hands like you are holding a turtle and press your palms against the lid and you will hear sure clicks as you turn it until it clicks all around the container and is "sealed". there were no problems with cracked containers or lids during transport. Mine (ordered twice so far) arrived in perfect condition.
