Please note that there are two different converters but the reviews are for both.one style converts an hdmi signal to component output to use a TV without hdmi or non functional hdmi ports. The second version is component to hdmi.that would be used to connect something like an older video game box or DVD player that doesn't have hdmi outputs a TV or monitor with hdmi input. The hdmi to component converter works well. My TV has hdmi inputs but it is fussy about connecting due to handshake and hdcp issues. It connects to my roku effortlessly. This unit does not upscale or downscale.it outputs the resolution that is put into it. Most component inputs are 720 resolution. If your device is set to higher than 720 you may have to temporarily connect to a working TV and change the display resolution output of the device that is being connected to the converter. 1080 output to a screen that is only capable of 720 results in a blank screen.
