Review on Moog RK80040 Control Joint Assembly by Josh Ulrich

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Quality part but lubricator not compatible

I bought the MOOG specifically because it had an lubricator. It turns out that the fitting doesn't clean the wheel. I have a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LS with 16" premium alloy wheels. If you have a newer model with 17" wheels it may fit. But I do not know. The shoe rubbed against the inside of my wheel and scratched the edge. In fact, you can't spin the wheel freely when the car is in the air. You'd think the brake is sticking but the oiler is so tight on the wheel. I tried grinding the head to fit but it still didn't fit. I ended up having to take a hacksaw and just cut off the oiler's head completely. Then I put the cut fitting back into the hole and place RTV over it to close the hole. Now it's cleared. The ball joint is no longer functional. I think if I wanted to re-grease them I could theoretically buy new grease fittings and just remove the cut nipple and put in a new one with the wheel removed so I could grease it. in my wheels, but I'll probably balance them just in case. PS The control arm comes with 3 washers and has 0 explanation of what to do with it. There were no OEM washers. Apparently people on the internet say it's for adjusting caster or camber. I did the camber myself after installing the arms and the caster and camber were within spec. Just had to adjust the alignment a bit.

Pros
  • Shocks, struts and suspension
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
