2000 Volkswagen New Beetle Doors

I used these SAVW6 adapters on the front doors of my 2000 VW New Beetle. After drilling out the old factory aluminum rivets, I used them to replace them (what a pain). There were no screws included with the plastic adapter, so I went to HomeDepot and bought some 1/4" x 20 5/8" Phillips screws (search B000MN4W8G here on Amazon for a pack of 100), washers, and metal/nylon. Locknuts (http://www.amazon.com/150pc-Nylon-Insert-Lock-Nut-Assortment/dp/B0074B9HUW/ref=sr_1_13?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1346951879&sr=1-13&keywords=locknut) for fastening plastic Adapter speakers on the doors and they worked great. I had to enlarge the holes in the plastic adapters to get the 1/4x20 screw through, but it's plastic and very easy to make. You can buy them here on Amazon if you want as I just noticed they have a mounting section under the entrance. Note that in this case you may need to extend the factory stereo cables by about 6 inches after cutting off the factory speaker plug. The red striped speaker wire is the positive wire. and brown is a minus for the speaker. Sounds like a problem, but not really, and nothing can stand up to a small butane soldering iron and a little heat shrink tubing plus some old wire. It's probably worth buying speaker wire adapters for this app if you can find it. Btw I've used Polk db651s and they fit very well. I ordered another set of SAVW6 adapters and speakers to accommodate the rear speaker and will update this review once installed.

Pros
  • Allows installation of new aftermarket speakers in factory speaker locations.
Cons
  • Useless functions.
