Used hot air at 800F and no problems with the ICs underneath desoldering the USB connector. Definitely going to be my favorite thermal band. Since the heat applied to desolder the USB connector is only used for a very short time, this worked in my case. For other uses I haven't tried it as basically I needed something to reflect high temperatures for short periods of time. Adheres well and is easy to remove from the board. I liked that I could bend it around the chips underneath to ensure there was minimal direct hot air on the chips I didn't want to desolder.
