Review on ASUS ProArt Display PA248QV: WUXGA 24.1" | 1920X1200 | 75Hz | Height, Swivel, Tilt Adjustments by Eric Kerby

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A very good photo monitor at a very good price.

This is a very good monitor, especially for the price. I've been a professional photographer for over fifty years, and while I'm not a professional, I sometimes shoot and edit on time, and stable color is a must. This ASUS monitor replaces the NEC 2490WUXi LCD monitor that I bought in May 2009 for $1095 which was a good price for a highly rated monitor. Unfortunately, after 11.5 years of use, the NEC was showing its age and I was starting to see inconsistencies on the screen. There was no burn-in of command bars and other application-related artifacts; they were irregular darker areas. Age spots maybe? Both the NEC and this monitor have a native resolution of 1900 x 1200 pixels and the screen sizes are almost the same, so I still get the same look and feel when editing photos, but on a $200 monitor. If I was doing a lot of video and audio processing, the extra space on the 27-inch model would be a plus. As for the performance of the new monitor after a few days: I am very satisfied. I calibrated with DataColor SpiderX Pro and the result was 97% sRGB. This was based on the 'Standard' mode setting, where you have access to contrast and brightness controls. Some may complain about this (in fact they have complained) but I think 97% are too close to the advertised 100% results to worry about. When I performed another calibration in sRGB mode, the result was 96% sRGB. I expected a little less with ASUS' dedicated mode. Draw an analogy with digital photography; Standard mode calibration is equivalent to using RAW, while other modes are similar to using preset JPEG. For the price and even $100 more I don't think you can do better.
