Review on 📷 Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM FLD Zoom Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera with Large Aperture by Mike Littlejohn

So far I'm very, very happy with this lens. I bought the lens last week in January 2019. I was concerned about the focus issues some were reporting. and halogen lamps for shops as a light source. I tested on my new EOS LS2 and 77D (Christmas 2018). There is a 'small' front focus at minimal distance to the target, at 17mm I mean 'slight'. Maybe 1/64? So faint that I can't tell if it's the lens or if I'm shaking my tripod (aka my technique). Sigma Dock not yet compatible: This lens is (at least not yet) NOT compatible with the Sigma Lens Dock I bought at the same time. time like this lens. So if you're having trouble focusing on your copy, you'll need to return the Revain lens for a refund or send it to Sigma. Luckily, my copy works great with my two new cameras. Based on that, I'll probably order more Sigma lenses in the future, so I'll just wait for the dock. And hopefully the dock will support this lens in the future. F/2.8 is a big difference compared to Canon's 18-55 kit lens for background blur (you know, the B-word). Manual Focus: Works great for me and me. When focusing manually, I actually prefer the shorter travel of the focus ring on this lens. The colors look very good on my Canon cameras and the lens is just as sharp or sharper than the 2.8/17mm Canon than the 4.0/18mm Canon and it gets better from here. I don't know if it has to do with the quality of the glass, the coatings, or the physical size of the glass in Sigma, but it's cool! The motor is obviously louder than the Canon STM lens. But I shoot photos, not videos, so that's not a problem for me. Zoom Ring Lock: Available at 17mm. I like it, although the lens doesn't seem to move when held vertically. But I'd rather have it than not have it. Autofocus works well in real time or through optical viewfinders. Image stabilization works, but Canon's system could be a bit better. Works very well on my copy. I need to do some real world testing to squeeze this feature out. The processing quality is very good for this price range. I am very happy. Comes with a nice carry bag. Nice gesture! Comes with a hood! Canon doesn't do this and it annoys me. I'd rather they include it and raise the price. CONS perhaps?: The focus ring, as others have noted, is always connected to the motor when the AF switch is on. Autofocus requires you to keep your hand away from it. And if you press it or rotate the AF switch, Sigma says you could damage the lens. So don't do it. LOL I just changed my position and moved on. No big deal to me. Longevity: We'll have to wait and see. Conclusion: I am very satisfied and if this lens lasts it will definitely replace my 18-55 kit lens, Pancake EF 40mm 2.8 and Pancake EF-S 24 2.8 as a single everyday/touring/portrait lens. However, the EF 50mm 1.8 remains. LAUGH OUT LOUD
