Review on Seachem 269 Discus Buffer 8 8 by Sherry Elliott

Ideal for lowering pH and GH

I have natural tap water with high pH and GH. For African cichlids that would be fine, but I prefer South American blackwater cichlids which require the opposite of my tap water. I bought a tube of Seachem Discus Buffer because I have used Seachem products before and am generally satisfied; their disc buffer didn't break the trend. I have to use quite a bit of buffer when doing water changes, but my aquarium's pH remains stable at around 6.8 instead of 8.0 in my tap water, and my overall hardness is halved to around 10. These conditions seem great for my cichlids, which breed almost weekly in my aquarium. Most importantly, my pH and GH are stable, no sudden swings. The buffer comes in a nice reusable bucket that is easy to store under my fish tank. I just calculated how much buffer I need to use to make my tap water perfect. I add a buffer that quickly dissolves when I mix water for water changes in 5 gallon water jugs. I have a 150 gallon aquarium and change about 30 gallons a week so my buffer runs out quickly, but the Seachem discus buffer is not very expensive when bought in bulk. As a bonus, the water I change out of my aquarium is perfect for indoor and outdoor plants. The low pH and extra softness are great for almost any plant. I know you should use distilled or neutral water for the buffer to work best, but for my needs, Seachem Discus Buffer is easy to use, easy to store, and stable. and above all efficient.
