Description of Seachem 269 Discus Buffer 8 8

IDEAL ENVIRONMENT: The Discus Buffer helps to replicate the ideal Discus environment of low pH and low GH (General Hardness). Discus Buffer will lower pH and keep it lowered. SOFTENS WATER: Discus Buffer softens water by precipitating calcium and magnesium. OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE: To help obtain optimal health and performance for your Discus, you can combine with Seachem’s Neutral Regulator in combination with Discus Buffer to achieve the desired pH when performing water changes or adding top off water. TANK USE: Use 1 level teaspoon (5 g) for every 40-80 L (10-20 US gallons) daily until intended pH is reached. Thereafter, use once a month or with water changes as required to maintain a balanced pH. SAFETY: Discus Buffer is safe for all freshwater fish acclimated to acid pH. Contains phosphate buffers and conditioning agents.

Good stuff for your discus aquarium

This wonderful item lowers the pH in my aquarium. So I recommend you use it in combination with a neutralizer to soften the water for your discus. My discus are very happy and healthy.

Increases phosphate levels.

Note that although the product works, it is phosphate based and will cause algae if used in large quantities. Not sure if you can remove phosphate with a phosphate remover as this can increase the pH again? Plants in water love phosphate, but unfortunately algae are one of those plants.

Ideal for lowering pH and GH

I have natural tap water with high pH and GH. For African cichlids that would be fine, but I prefer South American blackwater cichlids which require the opposite of my tap water. I bought a tube of Seachem Discus Buffer because I have used Seachem products before and am generally satisfied; their disc buffer didn't break the trend. I have to use quite a bit of buffer when doing water changes, but my aquarium's pH remains stable at around 6.8 instead of 8.0 in my tap water, and my overall…
