I bought this timer to control an electric water heater. It replaced a mechanical timer that failed due to a broken spring, and we didn't bother with the noise when it was made. I liked the quietness of this timer and the fact that I could bypass it and cancel the cycle. We didn't like the big sparks the shooters make as they toggle on and off. There are also indicator lights inside so you'll have to open the box to see if the load is on. A year after installation, it began to warm up and then began to give off the smell of burnt electronics. I have checked that the wires are firmly inserted into the sockets. Ultimately, this failed and the shooters made no contact. The insulation on the 10 gauge lead wire has melted. I assume the circuit is blown. The clock is still running. I will be replacing it with another Intermatic digital timer. If this doesn't last, let's go back to the mechanical ones.
