I own a 21ft deck boat and was having trouble trolling before purchasing these drift socks. My slowest speed was about 3mph and I have not fished our lake at that speed. I bought this drift sock and attached it to my front and rear boat spikes, tying it to the front and back of the drift sock, leaving just enough cord for the sock to sit right down the side of my boat underwater. I secured the boot straps very well before putting the sock in the water (it's very difficult to stay in the water so make sure it's secured). The sock slowed my boat to less than 2mph at the slowest speed and now I can troll at perfect fishing speed. The proof is in the pudding - after just a few hours of use I pulled out two very large largemouth bass, as well as some rock bass and a few other fish. By tying the back of the sock to the back boot of the boat, I was able to grab the back of the sock and easily lift it out of the water when I was done. Ideally, I try to find two lines of the right length with clips so I can attach the lines to the spikes, as well as just clip the sock on and throw it in the water when it's ready for use. This is a great alternative to a trolling motor and I am happy with the purchase. floor
