Review on ๐Ÿ’ช Dorman 615-183 Engine Intake Manifold: Top-Rated Black Model for Select Cars of Various Makes by Daniel Hicks

Act! Better OEM!

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500HD with 6.0 at 122,000 miles and it suffered from rough idling and a general feeling of power loss while driving. But it never had the usual Check Engine gauge associated with bad intake gaskets. Just a rough idle and very slight random misfires that could be heard and felt at the exhaust pipe. After careful tuning and eventual replacement of the intake manifold gaskets (a common problem) I was still greeted with rough idle. Shit! So I replaced every sensor I could, all eight injectors, all eight coil packs. nothing helped. I finally broke down and bought a Dorman intake manifold, thinking maybe my factory manifold was deformed. Research online has shown that OEM intakes warp sometimes, but not that often. I didn't think my collector was deformed, but I was desperate. Guess what? Problem solved with a Dorman intake manifold! The Dorman header is a different design than the OEM and I like it better. Personally I think the other design with eight separate gaskets is much better than the OEM design which uses a stamped gasket for each side of the intake. The spacers seem to stay in place with this design. The pads are also much thicker and stronger than even the Fel Pro pad kit. The manifold also feels much more open and roomy on the inside than the OEM intake manifold. I have a feeling this could allow for better airflow through the port rails. Just a guess. I wish Dorman would use threaded brass inserts like OEM for all throttle cable brackets, injector guides etc, but oh well. Just don't overtighten the Dorman screws. I hope I don't have to take the air intake off again for another 122,000 miles and it won't be a problem. All in all, I'm glad I bought the Dorman! The price of the Revain was surprisingly cheaper than any local parts store. Only time will tell how durable it will be, but so far I am thrilled that it has cured my rough idle and given me back the power I love so much in my 6.0 engine. .
