Review on 📻 Sangean PR-D9W Portable AM/FM/NOAA Alert Radio with Rechargeable Battery - White, Convenient One Size by Sean Young

I have had the Sangean PR-D9W radio since April 26th 2011 and am very happy with it. My wife enjoys listening to AM radio news in AM and I enjoy listening to late night radio (mostly AM) with surprisingly good reception even for more distant stations. This is our first radio with a weather band and I'm glad we have this feature. On a few occasions, the broadcast helped us understand local weather patterns even when we were traveling elsewhere. FM reception is excellent --- clear and reliable. I don't notice any drift or interference except at a more distant station near bandpass reception. And that's good for our region given the hills and valleys that surround us. I noticed sub-optimal battery life with the first batteries I used. They took a normal charge but didn't last more than a couple of weeks before needing to be charged again. Then I started using Eneloop (Panasonic) AA Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries, the battery life improved significantly. Eneloop batteries have low self-discharge, so they really do hold a charge longer than traditional NiMH batteries. Note. I always charge for several hours when the power supply/charger is connected to the radio. The charge status can be read from the small gauges in the top corner of the settings display - a nice convenience. An interesting observation: One of our radios (AM) exhibits static interference that requires the radio to be rotated L/R to better align the antenna with the ferrite rod. We have found (with a meter) that there is quite a bit of RF "noise" in our home due to Wi-Fi and some other electronics. Much of the static electricity will be minimized if we take the radio outside, away from all our electronics. I would highly recommend this radio to anyone looking for modern, attractive design, portability, quality and ease of use.
