Here's an old-school product that should still be a staple. Because it is a powder, it never dries out and becomes unusable like pre-mixed putties and fillers. A 3:1 powder to water ratio works great, but you can add more or less water as needed. Easy to clean, hard stone after drying, suitable for various surfaces. I've used it to fix dog-chewed table legs, fix nail and screw holes in drywall, and tighten joints under chairs in my dining room. I use it primarily to fill and repair drilled surfaces in door jambs and wooden cabinets so I have a hard solid surface to screw into. My last project was repairing the drywall under our toilet roll holder - it was hanging on the wall and there was nothing solid on it; A quick repair with this putty solidified the entire area and allowed me to reinstall the holder onto a solid, secure surface. It is great!
