We kept one of those big, sturdy, heavy plastic coolers in the trunk of our car for things that need to be kept cold after grocery shopping, but we've substituted these new boxes. The main reason is that they fold flat when not in use, taking up much, much less space in our small car trunk.So how do they work? Mostly pretty well. They hold enough stuff but being made of heavy cardboard, you have to watch the weight. One gallon of milk would be fine, two would be maybe pushing it. But things like eggs, meat, frozen foods . just distribute the weight between the two boxes and it's fine.The insulation is good enough. Of course, things won't stay cold as long as they would in the big heavy cooler packed with frozen gel packs. We wouldn't recommend shopping before work and leaving your stuff until evening. But a couple of hours is fine (depending on your weather; we're in a rather warm climate). Just don't push your luck.We don't recommend these for picnics and the like, unless you're going to eat upon arrival, in which case they're fine.Overall evaluation: 4 stars. These are very nice and very versatile, and as mentioned they lay flat when not in use. But they aren't especially strong and the insulation only will take you so far.
