Review on πŸ’§ Moen T3291 Align Moentrol Volume Control Shower Valve Trim Kit | Modern Design | Chrome Finish | Valve Required by Deejay Allard

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Leak detected, good for rough installations

This rating is based on the installation of this product on a valve + cartridge over 25 years old. If this trim is installed on a newer valve, it may work properly. .After installing this trim I noticed a small leak in the cartridge insert for my old valve. Water seeped through the clamp slot. I still don't know why it's leaking but when I put the old (plastic and ugly) pad back on and used it there was no leak. I repeated the replacement of the old and new fairings (and their respective housings) several times and only confirmed the new fairing's leak. My guess is that the new trim's rotation mechanism causes unwanted cartridge movement, which then lets some water through. You can attribute the leak to a cartridge that is over 25 years old, but note that with the old finish, this cartridge is not leaking. This simply indicates that the new fairing's specific turning (and/or temperature stopping) mechanism is inferior to the old simple design. The stop is precise and defined at the high temperature end (hex screw), but the stop at the low temperature limit is fuzzy. Something seems twisted at this end. When spinning at medium temperature, I feel a complex contact/pressure/bump between the black plastic piece and the white insert. This is in stark contrast to the old finish, which is a very simple solid piece of plastic that stops very sharply and sharply at both ends of the temperature.
