You have a few options: shrink electrical connections with a butane lighter, being careful not to burn the wires, or use this tool. This works well for smaller jobs and the risk of burns is much lower. Available heat is limited - if you try to crimp 2/0 (AWG 00) wire it won't work. But for general tasks with AWG 6 or less wiring it's a real boon - and I'll say I've been using the butane lighter method for years. The first system I bought stopped working after about three years and I had to buy another one. (The instrument's catalytic shield prevents it from being ignited with a match or lighter.)
