If you find that the handle doesn't lift itself, that's your next problem and you just need to buy a new one. The problem here is that corrosion seeps in between the plastic guide behind the grip and the shaft it is attached to. It cannot (on purpose on purpose I'm sure) be taken apart and cleaned. I don't really understand how this corrosion has accumulated since it's just the hand in the water. Even the square metal bar that the lever is attached to looked worn. The bottom line is to just buy it and not bother to fix/clean it. Just in case, I removed the lever for parts from the old one, since this element usually wears out first. I've spent more money on Kohler parts for two <10 year old toilets than for all toilets combined. The details just aren't made the way they used to be. The good news is that there is only one part to replace in the entire toilet. It's already saved to my Revain cart.
