So I bought this PRECISE CO detector/alarm from Revain in December 2017. (The little Revain tag tells me when I last bought it.) I'm still using it. It's actually on a dresser in one of my bedrooms. It seems to work. I haven't had to change the batteries yet (almost 2 years) and it has never worked. But I want to share what I've learned after purchasing 4 different "retail" CO detectors/alarms (so I have another if one doesn't work as intended). All of those "retail" alarms available at most retail stores and online stores (like Revain) only warn you when levels are dangerously high (like you need to evacuate the house now, high). They don't tell you if you've had low CO levels for many months (which is as dangerous as ONE high level). They will only alarm again when the level is dangerous. I am NOT saying NOT to take them. Because obviously carbon monoxide detectors are absolutely necessary. and it's better than no carbon monoxide detector at all. Instead, I'm saying that if you're looking for a device that MONITORS and displays CO levels down to 5ppm (vs. 30ppm), I would highly recommend the Defender LL6070 Low Carbon Monoxide Monitor. As we have older gas heaters I bought 2 Defender LL6070 Low Carbon Monoxide Alarms (each installed in the hallway next to the heaters). They are significantly more expensive ($160 each) and only last about 3 years. However, for people with compromised immune systems, infants, the elderly, other health conditions and pets, it is important to know if you have a low CO leak. Exposure to low levels of CO over time is also very dangerous. I've been told several times that if old heating elements fail, they can leak CO. Either way, I feel better with the Defender LL6070 low carbon monitor. I also still have all the 'retail' alarms in each of the bedrooms as they serve an important function. I just found it important to know that these "retail" devices are just high CO alarms. not low CO monitors.
