Review on Cloud PR2100 Network Attached Storage by Mohmed Burt

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Never thought storage could be fun - (after much setup pain)

I have fitted my PR2100 with two Western Digital 4TB WD4005FZBX hard drives, running them as hot-swappable 4- Set up TB Raid and then attempted to set up my Western Digital (WD) My Cloud account using the My Cloud OS 3 app. Although I've built numerous computers and set up countless networks, the process turned into hours and hours of frustration. I'm an engineer and even I was confused by this process! So much so that my mind literally blocked out the details. The process wasn't even plug and play and WD was tireless trying to get me updated to their new OS 5. However, now that I have a working storage device, I can tell you what I did with it. The files on the device are available not only for my Win 10 and Win 7 computers, but also for my phone and tablets! I even connected a USB hub that shares the contents of two 512GB USB sticks. I can even restrict what each device can do with files. Try it now with Windows 10 as they have removed homegroup which makes it impossible for you to share drives between Win 7 and Win 10 computers using a simple CAT cable. PS Western Digital is indeed promoting their new operating system, My Cloud OS 5, but I've read some very bad reviews about the app and after what it took to get OS 3 working I won't risk going through it any time.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old one
Cons
  • Negative impression
