Never thought storage could be fun - (after much setup pain)

I have fitted my PR2100 with two Western Digital 4TB WD4005FZBX hard drives, running them as hot-swappable 4- Set up TB Raid and then attempted to set up my Western Digital (WD) My Cloud account using the My Cloud OS 3 app. Although I've built numerous computers and set up countless networks, the process turned into hours and hours of frustration. I'm an engineer and even I was confused by this process! So much so that my mind literally blocked out the details. The process wasn't even plug and…

Well designed, fast, quiet, and comes with RED drives

Despite the price, I recommend these semi-professional RAID drives to anyone who needs to redundantly store large amounts of data. to protect against data loss. The device is easy to install. Just plug it in, plug in the network cable and get started. You then install a small software package on your computer to access the data on the drive and perform management functions. The web-based manager is quite nice, with many features and functions for advanced users, but with an intuitive interface…

Pros
  • Expensive but decent
Cons
  • Nothing

Works well but a bit noisy

I bought mine without the floppy drives. I already had a set of Seagate NAS drives. It took some "persuasion" to keep them in place without opening the door. Second, I hear a noise that looks like it's constantly searching for a hard drive, but it's not. It works as intended (Plex server) so I'm happy with it. REVISION: Mine isn't even a year old and it's already failing. I'm getting reports of power outages, loss of ability to read Volume 1, and the like. It's been hooked up to a…

An annoying bug: computer components

I really like this NAS for backup and sharing with family and friends. In fact, I'll probably buy a second one someday so I can dedicate one to backup and the other to cloud access. However, one morning I noticed that the power light was blinking and the NAS was disconnected from my network so I couldn't access it. After some research, it turned out that a hard shutdown and reboot of the NAS solves the problem. But what caused the problem in the first place. Automatic firmware update! Further…

Great hardware, terrible software. Decent transcoding Plex HW

This NAS does a really good job as a Plex server after all your content has loaded. I had at least 2-3 transcodes at the same time and everything works great. The main problem lies in the configuration and software. Setting up this device is not very easy and the software that assists you with it is really bad. I couldn't get the front USB copy function to work, I pressed the button like the manual suggests and the process just spins around and does nothing. In the end I just gave up and…

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Not as good as it promises
