Description of 📻 NooElec High Gain ADS-B Radio and Antenna Bundle - Dual-Band NESDR Nano 2 (978MHz & 1090MHz), Starter Edition for Stratux, Avare, Foreflight, and FlightAware

Includes 2 NESDR Nano 2 SDRs. Each SDR is lab-calibrated and EEPROM-programmed for simple Stratux software setup. Also includes a pair of high-gain ADS-B antennas, tuned to 1090MHz and 978MHz, respectively. The antennas are appropriately silkscreened with their frequency for easy identification. Each SDR includes a calibration sticker and adhesive identification labels, which can be applied for easy identification of each SDR. Full 1-year warranty through NooElec on all bundle components. Please consider our NESDR Nano 3 Dual-Band bundle (Amazon SKU: B076GWF6FF). This bundle includes additional antennas and adapters, and also utilizes our Nano 3 SDR with aluminum enclosures for a higher-performing & safer ADS-B experience.

great product Best in Computer Components

They worked amazing right out of the box. I *think* most customers use them with a Raspberry Pi. However, they have to be crooked to fit the Raspberry Pi. They get HOT, HOT, HOT too. I think it would be better if they got rid of the case around the board.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Very expensive

I bought several of these kits to use with FlightAware PiAware (Raspberry Pi 3B+) kits. The flyable receiver models (orange and blue) are too large to fit both receivers on the Raspberry Pi. as a good solution to integrate two receivers into one PiAware device without using USB extension cables or a powered hub. Having recently added UAT-978 receivers to several PiAware devices, I decided to give this receiver kit a try. On the 1080 ADS-B side, the nano receiver only picks up 40-50% of the…

Nice things for Stratux

Nice things for Stratux. You'll need to pry off the radio's plastic casing to mount it on the Raspberry 3B - but it's a very easy task with a small flathead screwdriver. Next on the wish list is the European version - UAT/978 Mhz is practically useless in this area. The obvious replacement is 868MHz for Flarm support (widely used for gliders, microlights, some GA airplanes and helicopters). Already supported by a fork of Stratux PepperJo or b3nn0. NooElec, just replace this antenna and you have

High bounce rate!

I've built about 20 units of Stratux which I sell on ebay and donate the proceeds to JDRF. I've had a few DOAs, but for the most part, they and NooElec have been a pleasure to deal with. No problem with DOA returns. Would give them 5 stars but the bounce rate of 1 out of 15 is a bit high. *UPDATE* I keep seeing higher bounce rates than expected. In the past it was more DoA crashes, but now I'm seeing client crashes after a few hours of use and the problem rate has gone up to 1 in 4. I do not…

StratuX SDR Kit

I used two SDRs to build Stratux. To install two units side by side you must remove the plastic covers. Easy enough to pry with a sharp blade. Remember to mark each block 1090 or 978. Each block is wrapped with a layer of Kapton (polyamide) tape for electrical insulation and heat dissipation. These devices must draw the maximum current allowed by the USB 2.0 port and then some. Would have given 5 stars if the devices hadn't gotten so damn hot. Luckily, the case I'm using has a small fan for the

  • Infinitely Slow

They are not suitable for Raspberry Pi.

These SDRs work great except they are thick and don't plug well side by side or into the Raspberry Pi's USB ports. They strain the USB ports and I don't like how they touch and are a little strained. I think they were designed to further protect their circuitry, but since the Stratux design is typically built into a case I don't think this is necessary.

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Almost everything is fine

Dual band SDR and NooElec high gain antennas work as advertised

To assemble the Stratux myself I only received a kit of high gain antennas as I didn't see the need for boost antennas in the area . which are also included in another set. The pictures show how the SDRs (Software Defined Radios) are connected to the Raspberry Pi 3 motherboard (one is partially obscured by the external USB GPS connector. I removed the cases to give them more breathing room, as they can get nice and hot.The UI uses an external GPS as it has an accuracy of 0 meters as opposed to…

Great for Stratux ADS-B

This is a great product if you are looking to build a Stratux ADS-B receiver. The radios and antennas were shipped quickly and arrived in a very well packed box. Installation in Raspberry Pi is very easy as both radios are USB. When buying this product, keep in mind that after each radio you have to take the black plastic case to connect it to the adjacent USB ports. The housings can be removed without special tools or effort. Each radio has been tagged with a pre-programmed 1090 or UAT…
