Thank you St O'Berry

This is a stroke of luck. I really don't think I would be sane if it weren't for this product. My floors are creaking! Oh boy, they creak! The creaking has intensified over the years. The creaking grew louder and louder in the winter when the house was dry. We have carpet in most of the house so getting on the floor was a challenge. A few years ago I decided to try this product and to my surprise it works great! I went through the first 50 screws in the set. I bought 50 more packs and went through everything too. Then I said "To hell with everything" and bought a pack of 250 contractors. With what I intend to do, I'll have to buy another one here soon. If you know how to find your bars or take a little time to find them through trial and error, this will surely work for you. I even got rid of a few mechanical squeaks with it. Our joists have metal X brackets running from one joist to another I think to keep the joist secure or not warp. I heard a metallic creak as those brackets rubbed together, making it sound like fingernails on a chalkboard. I was lucky enough to screw in a screw to attach it to the bracket and get it out of the way just enough so that it doesn't rub against the other bracket. A few tips after using this for a few years: Drill, and when I know I'll find a joist in a room, I write down the size (example: living room + 2 inches from base of south wall). Then I can easily find other bars that are 16 inches smaller than this size. You don't need any special bits or tool kit. You'll need to snap off the head of the bolt and knock it out with pliers or a hammer claw. My experience is that the squeaking will slowly return over time in some problem areas. I find that the thread is not enough to keep the floor on the joists and when the humidity changes, kids jump around or fall heavily, over time the floor comes loose from the screw. Screw a few more close by so the squeak doesn't come back. I put in probably 500 screws (many of which I had to loosen because the squeak didn't go away or I missed a joist) and not once did it affect the carpet. I have a pretty standard 1 inch nylon plush rug and it has been fine. The only mistake I've ever had with it was when I broke the head of a screw that wasn't screwed in the way it should have been - one of the downsides of not using a guide. So if you step barefoot with your heel directly at this point, you will feel a slight bump. Not enough to hurt, enough to say hmm I should fix this with a big hammer someday. I haven't used it to try and fix squeaks on a hardwood floor or any other surface, only on carpet. Ultimately, the best way to fix this is to rip up the carpet and use real floor screws. I'll do that next time I change the carpet. Meanwhile, Squeeek No More is the best solution. Thank you O'Berry Enterprises!
