As mentioned, sometimes this device does not work right out of the box. If you turn it over, remove the lid and press on it to activate it, you'll see a piece of metal that needs to be in contact for the element to heat up. Until you bend this piece to the touch, nothing will happen. Once you do that you should be fine. It seems to work quite well, although I haven't put too much effort into it and haven't used it very much.
