Review on πŸ“· Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG IF HSM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Nikon SLR Cameras by Robert Blair

Revainrating 5 out of 5

widest zoom on the market for full frame

when I was looking for this lens I saw people using this lens with Tokina 12-24 f/4 or even Tokina 11-16 f /f compared /2.8 and Sigma 10-20. People say these larger aperture lenses are half the price. People need to understand that all other wide angle lenses are DX and not full frame. It's the widest full-frame zoom (yet) and just 2mm wider than the 14-24 f/2.8 Nikon beast, but at these angles even 2mm matters. If you ask me which I would prefer, Nikon 14-24 or Sigma 12-24, Nikon is of course no problem, but Nikon is more than twice the price and although people call it the sharpest wide-angle, I don't know if there is a difference that is worth the price. f/2.8 is good, but at this width it doesn't really matter. Most of my shots with this lens are night shots or landscape shots, both of which are best done with a small aperture. I mostly go down to f/32. This lens is very sharp and on my d700 it focuses very quickly. and I'm talking night time so literally with no light I pointed my flashlight to where I want to focus and bam it's focused. I took night photography classes and everyone including the instructor was shocked at how wide this thing was and how sharp the shots were. I consider myself a hard reviewer, but this lens deserves 5 stars. Yes it is blinding but look at the photos of the lens there is half a sphere on the front of this thing no matter how blinding it is. I put 2 lens photos and 14 some night shots I took with it on Amazon. [.]

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
