It was better than described

It was better than described. Excellent quality, we will continue to buy from the seller. It even included the original box, lens case and papers. We have used it many times and it works perfectly. No scratches or signs of wear at all.

universal wide angle

I bought it because I will use it for both my film and digital bodies. For ultra wide angles I use it with film (Nikon N-80) and for more traditional wide angle shots with my Nikon D-200. This is one of three lenses that I take with me on vacation in the mountain states. The rest are Nikkor 28-85mm and Nikkor 70-300mm with 2X Tamron SP Doubler. Not having Photoshop or anything like that yet, I wanted to be able to take very wide shots without gluing them together.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Difficult to say

Sigma 12-24mm lens with Nikon mount

Bought just over a year ago. The only disappointing thing was that this lens did NOT have a small switch to disable auto/manual focus (Nikon mount) as advertised. I'd like to have it on this lens, but I've learned to work around that small drawback. This lens is excellent for photographing large vehicles at close range (less than 4.5m), such as B. fire engines or trains. This lens loves a lot of light. It works well in low light, but it really excels in brightly lit scenes. Focus time whenโ€ฆ

widest zoom on the market for full frame

when I was looking for this lens I saw people using this lens with Tokina 12-24 f/4 or even Tokina 11-16 f /f compared /2.8 and Sigma 10-20. People say these larger aperture lenses are half the price. People need to understand that all other wide angle lenses are DX and not full frame. It's the widest full-frame zoom (yet) and just 2mm wider than the 14-24 f/2.8 Nikon beast, but at these angles even 2mm matters. If you ask me which I would prefer, Nikon 14-24 or Sigma 12-24, Nikon is of courseโ€ฆ

Surprisingly good! best in category camera lenses

As always when buying third party lenses there are doubts about the quality of the lens itself. The fact that third party lenses are also very reasonably priced sometimes adds to the confusion, as we all like to believe that "you get what you pay for". However, this Sigma lens ultimately surprised me and cleared all my doubts. Not only is this lens the widest straight lens currently available, but it's also remarkably sharp and well built. The HSM motor is very quiet and fast, focusing even inโ€ฆ

Extreme wide angle, but.

I am using this lens on a full frame camera (D700) so this review is for full frame users. On the cropped sensor side, there's more choice (with relative pros and cons) - don't take this lens for DX. Pros: - The widest rectilinear lens for a full frame. The difference in coverage between 12 and 14mm (the next best candidate, at least Nikon's) is HUGE (if you look at it - at least 15% - 20% more on 12mm) - vivid color reproduction. I don't know why this is, but compared to the same settings atโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Not better than Nikon, but much cheaper.

The Sigma has been heavily vilified by Nikon lens snobs, and with good reason. The build quality and optical clarity of the average Nikon lens far surpasses the average Sigma lens. This particular Sigma lens has been in my bag since 2004 (three years now) and has performed flawlessly in dusty, wet and rainy conditions. I can't say that about every Nikon lens I've had. Don't get me wrong - this is not a pristine lens. It's fairly weatherproof, but I doubt it will survive water immersion likeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Rugged build
Cons
  • Damaged
