Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Tripp Lite 4-Port DVI Dual-Link/USB Desktop KVM Switch - Audio & Cables Included (Model: B004-DUA4-HR-K) by Noel Schmits

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The most stable KVM I've found

I've used (and discarded) several KVMs over the years, most of them inexpensive. The Tripp Lite B004-DUA4-HR-K has proven to be the most dependable and dependable when it comes to shifting to date. Here is the configuration I currently have it in: Monitor: NEC LCD2490WUXi (1920x1200 resolution) Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2013 (see note below) Mouse: Roccat Kone Pure (connected via Razer BlackWidow port) Speakers: Logitech 2.1 -System Systems: 1 - PC (AMD Ryzen 1700x + ASRock x370 Taichi + Nvidia GTX1080 EVGA FTW GAMING)2 - 2015 MacbookPro via Caldigit Thunderbolt 2 hub, connected via Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI3 adapter - 2009 MacPro + Nvidia GTX 680 ( Mac version)4 - MacPro 2001 + Nvidia Setting up the GTX 280 (Mac version) was fairly easy. So far using it with the Mac has been fine, but there were a few issues on the Windows side: - I had to turn off the mouse emulation mode on the PC channel, otherwise it would only move in the horizontal direction. - Like an idiot I installed Razer Synapse 2.0. Software, hoping to program the KVM switch sequence (scroll-lock, scroll-lock, [number], enter) as a macro. Ironically, this rendered the keyboard completely unusable for KVM keyboard switching or even invoking hotkey mode (neither the scroll key nor the num lock were sent to KVM, instead they went directly to the computer). Uninstalling Synapse didn't help; I had to manually find and install the "legacy" pre-synapse drivers for the BlackWidow keyboard before I could get the keyboard to properly send events to KVM. I'm not sure if this option will be available on newer Razer keyboards (I have an old 2013 model), so make sure to install Synapse if you want to use keyboard switching. Now that I've achieved stabilization, the system is very reliable. One day the computer lost the connection to the mouse, which sometimes happened with other KVMs; I'm not sure if this is due to the Razer port, Windows instability, using KVM, or a combination of both. Using it on the Mac went smoothly. I'll continue this review if I run into any issues in the future, but so far I'm impressed with the device and definitely recommend it.
