Worked for a while and then wouldn't turn off

I installed this pump in one of my window wells to pump excess water during heavy rain. Leaves clog the device. The pump has been running for some time and required annual maintenance cleaning to ensure the float was working properly. Unfortunately, the float sensor stopped working after about 2 years, causing the pump to run non-stop. I immediately found the problem that the pump didn't burn out, but the pump is now useless for my application and $100 was wasted.
