First I would like to say that you can absolutely use these cameras without ordering "cloud storage" or anything like that. If you insert a micro SD card (also called TF cards in the list), they will record on the card and you can access previous recordings through the app. This is pretty standard on many security cameras I've bought. So the cameras themselves have excellent picture quality, about what you'd expect from 1080p. They're easy to set up. Plug in your camera, then just launch the app and enter your WiFi credentials. The app generates a barcode that you hold in front of the camera. The camera reads the barcode and connects to the WLAN - done. He even tells you with his voice what he's doing or if he's in trouble. Note that if you have the app on a tablet rather than a phone, you may need to hold the tablet a foot or two from the camera, not 8 inches as they say. Not so hot what's up. Note that they only work with 2.4GHz WiFi, not 5GHz. Most 5GHz routers also have a 2.4GHz option, so this isn't usually a problem. Now for the application. Firstly, I don't like that the app has a bunch of links where you can buy cloud storage. And if you're not careful, it's very easy to click on it and accidentally buy something you might not want to buy. I feel like the app is missing some features that I've used with other cameras. First, while night vision is excellent, these cameras can perform VERY well in the dark with just ambient light. I have other cameras that allow you to turn off night vision and record very bright and clear video with only one light bulb (e.g. on the porch). However, these cameras do not allow you to turn off night vision. The difference is that night vision is black and white and night vision is not color. Some other cameras let you control the length of the motion detection recording, but not this one. Although I will say that the motion detection is much better than some of the cameras I've used. I believe this camera only uses video for motion detection, unlike some of my cameras that claim to use infrared, which I suspect doesn't. In any case, the motion detection is very fast. For some reason it seems that at least some of the motion detection videos are recorded in SD rather than HD which the cameras are set to. It's annoying. However, live video transmissions are carried out in HD format. The good thing is that you can also download the Yi desktop software, watch videos and control cameras from your laptop or desktop. I wish my cameras from other manufacturers could do that. All in all, these cameras are a hell of a deal. About twenty dollars each when I got them. Some are better than other cameras I have and some are worse. For that he gets four stars.
