I don't usually write long reviews but I'm worried that some people might get confused. I've found that if I'm careful I can easily wind this onto an embroidery spool. The cost of silk thread already wound on a postcard is very expensive. a few dollars for each color. So if you don't mind a little work, I highly recommend this. I carefully separated the colors, shaking them out and figuring out where they were knitted into the skein (think the skein is meant to be spun), making sure I had a clean loop using the tie as a guide. I gently pulled on the loop with both hands and the little knot came out. Then I cut the tie and carefully separate the strands to find the end. I drape it over my coat on my dining chair, which is the right size for the buttonhole, and then proceed to wind the bobbin. In all of these cases I had entanglements in only two strands. User error in both cases. This is a sewing dream. Give it a try if you want to save.
