For a high power massager I was afraid it would be hard and uncomfortable. But it's a big, soft, comfortable pad that offers a gentle massage. He has only one speed, it's not very difficult. It's good for a relaxing massage, but not for a deep tissue massage. I love that it comes with straps to help hold it in place for self-massage, but I had to change them because they were too long for my hips and too short for my stomach. I'm not overweight so it's not that long. I preferred having it massaged me than giving it. This is almost a stronger vibration than a massage. I'm not very strong and the vibrations I was holding made my hands a little numb.
