Review on πŸ” Breeding Box for Vision Enhancement by Angelia Marler

Great nest, wish it was transparent.

I've had this nest for almost 3 years now, it's well built and easy to clean. I want it to only have one side or top or even a door that is transparent so I can visually inspect the eggs/hatchlings without having to open the door every time. The door closes with a click, which is good because the kids don't fall out, but it's noisy and shakes the nest a bit, which makes mom nervous. If I could see I would only have to open it when I see a problem or when it needs cleaning. There is enough space for both parents to sleep in the nest with the babies at night. Because the nest is a rectangle with an entrance at one end, they have a place to lay their eggs/babies away from the entrance so they don't jump on it when entering or exiting the nest. I use a folded paper towel on the bottom before placing at least 2 inches of nesting material on top because the bottom is slippery. This will prevent the birds from accidentally slipping off the nesting material and spreading the chicks' legs. I have found that paper towels are folded and then cut into thin strips. Then I constantly put a paper towel folded in half in another part of the cage for my lovebirds, and they shred it up and carry it to the nest themselves if necessary. I also give them wet palm leaves which they love to shred and use. I know it's safe for lovebirds, but if you have another species of bird, make sure it's safe before using it. I have used organic peat moss but one of my kids got one of the tiny stalks stuck in his nasal cavity thanks he is perfectly fine but another died from inhaling the fine particles/dust that comes from the peat , so I wouldn't recommend it.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Good but not perfect
