Review on Efficient Camco RV Roof Vent Cover: Optimal Air Ventilation for Your RV, Rain or Shine by Robert Staten

Revainrating 2 out of 5

A good idea that just doesn't last.

At first I was pleased when I opened the box and saw that the two vent covers were very well packed. Fit and finish were good. I immediately climbed onto the roof of my Bigfoot RV and was able to install one of the vents before I had to go back to work on Monday. Moderate sun with snow has been beating on it all week, and I climbed back onto the roof over the weekend to find the air vent we just installed was already turning yellow (just the detachable screen on the back). I couldn't remember if the original looked the same when installed, so I took the newer one (kept in the box) and put it on top to find two completely different devices. The only thing that came to mind was that the plastic quality should be different between the detachable screen and the vent cover itself. The vent cover may be ok, but the screen cover is definitely not UV resistant as it will yellow within a week. It will probably get worse over time. I'm a bit frustrated right now because I'm stuck between removing and sending it back or removing the cover and painting it to match. Either way, it's a huge pain in the eyes on a polished white van. I hope this helps someone before they take the time to install. I emailed Camco asking for a solution. I will update this review when I get a reply. Update 5/1/2019 - CAMCO emailed me back (within a week of the original review) and took my issue seriously. I gave them my order information and they immediately sent me two new screen covers to replace the already yellowed covers I had. The original covers yellowed no more than the original photos I took over the months they have been installed now, but the new covers also yellowed to the same extent, leading me to believe that the plastic formulations between the two pieces were different actually have to distinguish. I removed the screens and sanded/painted them to match and that was it. I probably won't order them again when they need to be replaced and will instead go with the slightly more expensive maxxair units and see if I get better results. Overall I gave this review an extra star for CAMCO's excellent customer service but ultimately the product just doesn't fit and I would personally recommend you look elsewhere for a more durable finish.
