There are no instructions for these lamps but it's easy to find out. The timer works like this: when you turn on the light for the first time, press the timer button and your timer will start. They work 6 hours and then turn off. The remote control only works in the immediate vicinity of the battery compartment. I want the remote to work remotely so you can stand in front of them when they are hung to see the different options. I love that they come with 8 different zipper options. You need to replace the batteries about every 7 days to keep the light bright. For me it's worth it as I don't have an outlet on the porch. I think this is a great purchase. Too bad they came in a chain of 50 for my door wreath. Would definitely order again. Great buy for the price!
