I'm up for the second time. I got my first when I started my aquarium. I have 29l. The water was clear the whole time and I wondered if the rock was doing anything. A little over a month ago I noticed that the water had become cloudy. I did my usual water changes, vacuumed the gravel, changed the filter and nothing. the same muddy water. The stone was supposed to last a year and a half, but mine might have lasted less than a year. I have decided on a new stone. Reading the instructions it says it should be near a place with access to carbonated water (bubbles) as the bacterial scale is aerobic. I remembered raising the water level for several months to keep the water level from dropping too much over a number of trips. I think the water level was too high for the bubbles to reach the stone causing the stone to break prematurely. (The only source of aeration for me is the filter as it cascades water to the surface and gravity pushes the bubbles down to the stone.) I recently got my second stone, and a few weeks into the usual cleaning and filter replacement , I have clear water in my aquarium again. This stone is just amazing! I will get it as long as I have an aquarium.
