This is a fundamentally flawed design. This requires the MPT nipple to protrude EXACTLY the correct 1/2 inch from your wall or you won't be able to get a seal. I installed three of these pipes in a newly built shower room and the plumbing and tiling were done by experienced, high quality professionals. When it came time to install this shower elbow, I had a choice of 1.5" or 2" nipples. 2 inches was too long: I was able to seal the threads just fine, but the knee didn't touch the tile. The 1.5" hose was pressed against the tile but the threads were not sealed. I've tried several times using teflon tape, pipe grease, more teflon tape, all to no avail. Once it hits the bottom, you're done. The only way to make it tighter would be to twist the whole block one more turn, which I tried, even scraping the surface of the elbow through the protective webbing and almost breaking the hardware in the wall. different design so there are some adjustments for mounting and sealing.
