Easier to use for tight fitting doors

My van door was difficult to open with the standard vertical latch that swings to the left. The door closes tightly due to the compression of the seal, and I've adjusted the striker plate all the way. With the standard lock, I can only reach a couple of fingers to pull, and then only to the first knuckle. It was even more difficult for my wife to open the door. This latch solves the problem as I can get all my fingers past the link and up to the second pivot point or more. It still requires a firm grip and pull to open, but it's a lot easier to do. My only complaint is with the installation. The screws were not long enough to touch and "bite" the female rivets. Finally, I pressed both sides of the latch hard enough to compress the door's foam core and the new latch's outer seal just enough to thread through the 2 screws closest to the edge of the door. Not easy to do. To tighten the other two screws, I had to tighten the first two to further compress the foam core. Longer screws need to be provided or if thinner doors require short screws so the screws don't reach the floor then 2 sets of screws need to be supplied. The driveway door abuts the new latch and would probably have ripped the paint off from hitting the latch and vibration during movement. I solved this problem by putting a thin stick on the vinyl bumper at the latch where it touches the railing. Even though this bar doesn't have a separate bar like the original, I find it secure. RV doors swing open so they have a grommet to prevent using say a credit card to open the latch and the latch still won't retract when locked so it acts like a traditional deadbolt. Overall a good clasp.

Pros
  • Revolutionary latch system for increased security
Cons
  • Clarity
