So I've been flying without a neck pillow for several decades. I always thought they looked stupid, didn't work, etc. And my experiments with these inflatable donuts confirmed my belief that neck pillows are stupid. A particularly hectic travel season, coupled with the growing problem of adjusting to time zones (and frankly, better pre-travel preparation, meaning I didn't stay up all night on the plane writing my reports!), got me to think it's time to try again. Neck pillows are more like headphones: comfort is highly subjective, as is the standard each of us uses to judge what works best for us. Still, I find it AMAZING. It's very comfortable to wear, doesn't overheat, stays in place and really keeps your head up. I wore it on a 12 hour SFO-IST flight (full of little kids), SFO-AMS and elsewhere and it was amazing; it doesn't offset the savings, but it helps. It also packs neatly into its own carry case (although those things are never very small). They're not cheap, but if they work for you, they're worth it.
