Review on πŸ”§ 3M High Strength Large Hole Repair Kit: 12 fl. oz Compound, Self-Adhesive Back Plate, Putty Knife, Sanding Pad by Nick Reddy

Did a great job patching a huge hole in the ceiling

I needed to patch a 4 inch hole in a concrete ceiling (painted, not actually drywall). For a hole that big I probably should have made a dowel out of scrap plasterboard, but instead I tried to fill it slowly by applying layers of joint compound. This was a rookie mistake, it took too long to build up and leak before it was dry. The repair kit has many fibers built in, making it look more like clay than a normal compound. I wasn't able to use the plastic backing from the kit but it stuck well enough to the other metal plate I had installed and didn't worry it will fall out. "Furthermore, it cured without noticeable cracking or shrinkage. I decided to make the patch slightly concave and reapplied regular joint compound just to make sure the surface texture was even. After sanding and painting I have absolutely no idea where the hole was Very easy to use for someone with no experience and the result was basically what I expected from a contractor. The only downside was the cost; maybe not worth it for true professionals, but for DIYers it makes sense.
