Review on πŸš— Volkswagen VW Golf GTI 90256 Passenger Side Mirror Glass (4th Generation, Chrome Lens), Jetta, Passat - Enhanced for SEO by Bobby Diaz

Excellent value for money and quality; Clear glass works well

Replacing a side mirror on a 2002 Passat that has turned black over the years. This model has a heating element built into the "mirror" and will eventually fail in one way or another. In my case, the heating element still worked, but the mirror wouldn't snap into place without cracking completely. One star docked for bad or useless instructions. On this car, it's best to first take out the old glass with a trim tool or something similar. The old "glass" and the heater are pulled out with little effort, then you can check whether the heater is connected, clean if necessary and attach the supplied replacement glass with double-sided adhesive. If the old unit is essentially broken replacing the batch with an OEM replacement would be much better than using this mirror over the old one. Surprisingly, after installation, the heater still worked to clean the side mirror. I thought this might not work as with the foam the new mirror is offset from the heating element by about 1/2mm. But fortunately everything works and in any case the mirror image is better than that of the old device.

Pros
  • The most economical way to replace cracked mirror glass
