Join 2 wires in a sleeve under the solder band. It is better to leave strands free so that they mix with counter wires and are well impregnated with solder. The solder takes more heat to melt than it does to shrink, but it bonds well and the solder is spread across the joint. I found the clear heat shrink tubing to be flimsy, so put another piece of heat shrink tubing over the joint. There is no mechanical connection here like there is with a crimp so you only have solder holding the elements together and normally you should not use an electrical connection as a mechanical connection but in low voltage applications (e.g. pull) they should work fine.
