I gave this unit 4 stars because it worked but there were adjustment issues. I was tempted to give it only 3 stars but reading reviews of other units it seems to be the only unit that will work with the 1991 Chamberlain 1160LM 1/2 HP. Here are some product issues that aren't really the keyboard's fault, but that the garage opener is outdated. key, although this keyboard says it only works with pre-1993 devices. I had a 1991 model so I took a chance with the yellow button option and it paid off. 2) Programming was a "pain in the ass" to say the least, but it ended up working out more like a fluke. than everything else seems I thought I did it in 15 minutes, I followed the instructions, typed a pin and hit enter and it opened, then I typed a pin and hit enter and it closed. Then I accidentally just hit enter and found that it opens and closes without a pin. I was shocked. He was clearly speaking to the device but ignored my need for a needle. Since I had a repeating digit in my PIN I figured this might be the case so I tested 1234 to no avail. After the first day I gave up, pulled out the device battery and decided to try another day. The next day I went but the same thing again. One person noticed that they pressed the learn to open button between steps 1 and 2:1. Press the * and # keys until the keyboard stops flashing. 1a. Press and release the learn button on motor unit 2. Enter the 4-digit PIN3. Press and release Enter ___ times as above.4. Press the 0 key to exit programming.5. To verify, press the PIN code and Enter. It didn't work for me either. I also tried swapping 1 and 1a. I finally read the option on the back of the instructions that says to press keys 1 and 9 for 10 seconds to disable the single "enter" key to close, forcing you to use a PIN to open and enter close. After programming "1234" a few more times, I was about to give up and entered my original code, Enter and "Bingo"; it worked. I think the key here is that this opener can't distinguish between an "open" command and a "close" command from the keyboard, so it only lets "enter" work to open and to close. I toggled the 1+9 option on and off and it changed from "pin+input" to "input only". Close. If the instructions didn't help, try adding setup 1a above. After it worked, I didn't want to do all the programming exercises again. Note that this was not a Sears unit, it was a Chamberlain and the model is printed on the front of the case under a light cover, not the back. The build quality is good, the buttons light up well, assembly is easy. Would recommend to others as seems to be the only device that will work with this old 1991 device. Note that you don't open and close the door too often, mine actually overheated after about 30 minutes of opening and closing. I let it cool down for about 30 minutes and everything was fine after that. Much luck!
