Review on Fluval Canister Filter FX6 400 by Tamara Palmer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I have very lucky Oscars with Tuwal in my corner.

As an aquarist since the 1970's, I've known the Fluval name for a long time. But I have never used Fluval brand canister filters on my aquariums, now I regret not having done so. They always seem so expensive that I can't justify the cost. I've found that you really do get what you pay for, backed by numerous bugs, glitches, the occasional annoying leak and noise from other brands. I keep Oscars and African cichlids. My current Oscar is 8 years old and was given to me by my mother-in-law when he was nothing more than a set of tiny eyeballs and fins in her 80 gallon aquarium. He is now over 12 inches tall. When my last external filter broke and was no longer worth repairing, I finally considered the Fluval FX-4 as I felt my Oscar (Ollie) was worth the cost. I don't regret the price of over 200€. I was sold a multifunction self-priming computer controlled flushing system that flushes all air out of the filter every 12 hours, but it has much more of a port on the bottom for drainage with a pump and even a port for a siphon accessory. . Finally it's so quiet that I have to check if it still works. It worked flawlessly the first day without crying or grinding your teeth. I always prefer a filter twice the size of my aquarium. This one provides more than all the power I need and is like turning on a wave fan. From now on I'm going with Fluval and Ollie is very happy with this change.
