The optional sheet feeder lets you load more paper into the printer (so you don't have to refill as often). It takes a whole stack, which means I don't have to figure out where to store half a stack of paper. Setup is ridiculously easy - just set the printer on the sheet feeder and you're done. If there's a downside, it's that the tray costs about a third of the cost of the printer itself, depending on the printer model. You get. Of course, that's more indicative of the price of the printer than the cost of the paper cassette.
