I just installed this light and bought a 12" light for a 15" planting cube tank. This light is not as bright as my previous one, which is not a criticism as the previous light always seemed too strong to me. It lights up the tank nicely and I think that's a pretty good amount of light. So I expect a little less algae growth. There were no instructions in the box, which struck me as odd, but by pushing the button it was fairly easy to figure out which way the switch turned on the daylight and which way the moonlight. However it would be a good idea to have a manual with the location of the switch if you also bought a timer to work with this light. But thanks to another commenter, he explained how nice it is to work with a light and timer combination. It also has a nice low profile so the tank still looks nice and modern as you can see in the photo.
