I wanted a hat that would be warm in cold weather, but not so warm that it was un-wearable in cool temps. I think this cap would be very comfy down to perhaps 15°F, even colder if not too windy.It has a deep crown, so even with the flap folded up, the lower edge of the cap is below the top of my ears. Your ears might be different. When the flaps are folded down, it covers all of my ears. This cap does not protect your neck, nor does it cause any neck friction when you turn your head.I ordered XL, which is just a bit loose on my 23 1/2" circumference head. Overall, I would say it was a perfect fit, since I do not wish for a tight fit and I am on the lower end of the "XL" size range.
