Universal? Of course, if you are mechanically very inclined and have the right tools and equipment. At first glance it looks like the original engine until you try to fit it. The first problem is that the mounting nuts are not included in the kit. It would have been nice if it had the same thread size as what came out, but we didn't have that. By the way, you need 6-32 nuts. When the hardware store opened and I got the equipment, I thought everything was fine until the engine started because the impeller was sitting too high. So I pulled it out and sanded the face on the shaft to allow the fan to sit further. That might have been fine, but I still had to trim off the excess shaft length. Well, I finally picked something up, but the air wasn't sucking. As it turned out, the motor turned in the wrong direction. What should I do now. Nobody takes back the part that the customer has sharpened. I took out the guts of the engine and turned it over. Ah, relief. It worked and it wasn't hard at all, just loosen the two screws and flip it. Of course it would be nice if there was anything included at all to tell you how to reverse the motor. Therefore I can only give 3 stars, although the engine runs well. It could have been five stars if it had been made with a longer flat spot on the shaft, included instructions for reversing the motor, included hardware and instructions for cutting the shaft, or commented on the product description that the shaft would be must be cut to original dimensions. Based on the picture and the definition of versatility I really thought it would be a 5 minute job instead of 3 hours to figure out how it works and drive to the hardware store.
