I have thoroughly tested the 3 brands below. If you use Faber Castel you will be happy as it is not wax. This results in a very sharp tip, but the sharpest setting causes a lot of chipping when pressed lightly. The point size is easily adjustable. Stop using and clean about all six pins. Wipe with a graphite pencil from time to time to keep it clean. I use a strong can of compressed air from the hardware store and clean the interior quickly and thoroughly. Battery life was excellent under heavy use. Remember NOT to use Prismacolor. A pencil leaves tons of wax and shavings on the blade. Lange sharpens and cleans afterwards. Some colors are naturally worse than others. Caran D'Ache does not grind well. The scope of the pencil is too big so most won't fit! The sharpener ruined my set of Staedtler graphite pencils, chewing through the wood. I assume other pencils will have different results. I've devoted a lot of time to research, very disappointing. A few years ago I had an electric/battery sharpener that looked the same and just used old Prismacolor pencils that worked great.
